Usually when people say "giant squid", they're referring to the species Architeuthis dux. There is another even larger squid called the Antarctic or Giant Cranch squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni), and I always thought that the next largest one after A. dux was the Humboldt squid, or Dosidicus gigas.
